The UK Covid-19 Inquiry has examined everything from education to the economy, but for many bereaved families its most urgent questions concern the care our loved ones received.
In From Inquiry to Action, we explain where the Inquiry’s recommendations on health and social care do not go far enough and what the Government must do now to prevent more avoidable deaths.
Three of our key asks are:
Make hospital air safer. Improve ventilation and air cleaning to protect patients from catching infections in hospital.
Protect the right to be with a loved one who depends on you for care. Families and carers who provide essential support must be recognised as partners in care and able to stay with patients during a pandemic.
Review decisions not to attempt CPR (DNACPR). Establish how widespread inappropriate decisions were during the pandemic, who was most affected and how to prevent this happening again.
Failing to learn from the deaths of our loved ones would be unforgivable. The Government must act now.
