Covid-19 has so far killed more than 230,000 people across the UK. We campaign for genuine national remembrance and permanent, publicly accessible memorials in communities across the country.

Bring a Covid memorial to your area
Too many communities still have nowhere permanent to gather, reflect and remember those who died. CBFJ is building a member-led network to help change that.
The group is open to CBFJ members and supporters who are campaigning for a memorial or want to start a campaign in their area. Members can share progress, learn from campaigns elsewhere and ask CBFJ for support.

Our first local campaign
A permanent Covid memorial for Manchester
Thousands of people died across Greater Manchester and the North West, yet Manchester still has no dedicated central Covid memorial.
CBFJ members are building public, political and media support for a fitting and accessible memorial in Manchester city centre. The campaign will help establish a model that members can use elsewhere.

The National Covid Memorial Wall
On 29 March 2021, CBFJ created the National Covid Memorial Wall with Led By Donkeys on the Albert Embankment, directly opposite Parliament. Our co-founder Matt Fowler painted the first red heart, thinking of his dad as he did so.
Bereaved volunteers then began painting thousands more. Each heart represents a person who died from Covid-19, turning the 500-metre wall into a place of remembrance and a permanent reminder of the human cost of the pandemic.
