Inquiry Recommendations

Further action in response to our campaign

There are also aspects of Module 3 where the Government has gone further than the official inquiry recommendations, thanks to pressure from Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice. These include:

Inequalities data - We called for substantially better collection and analysis of data on healthcare inequalities and discrimination, particularly in relation to ethnicity and disability. The Inquiry did not specifically call for improved collection of equality data, but the Government has committed to improving the quality, consistency and completeness of ethnicity data and developing new standards covering protected characteristics including ethnicity and disability.

Disabled people - We called for the specific needs of disabled people to be explicitly recognised in emergency planning, with systems in place to ensure those needs are met. The Inquiry did not make a specific recommendation on this, but the Government is rolling out a Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag across health and social care. This will allow information about the adjustments a person needs to be recorded and shared between services, helping ensure care and treatment can be tailored appropriately and equitably.
